Who we are

Picks & Shovels Research is an independent investor-education channel maintained by a group of private investors based in the United States. We are researchers and writers, not brokers, advisers or fund managers. We do not manage money for others and we do not sell trading tools, signals or courses.

Why the name

In every gold rush, the miners catch the eye — but the sellers of picks and shovels collected steady money through every rush, from 1849 California to the dot-com build-out. Our research interest is the unglamorous base layer that technology physically depends on: electricity, heat and matter. Hence the name.

What we do

We publish free educational material, including the 2026 AI Infrastructure Allocation and Risk Control Handbook. The handbook explains, in plain language, how power grids, cooling systems and semiconductor manufacturing constrain what AI companies can actually deliver, and how everyday investors can think about position sizing, stop rules and diversification.

What we do not do

We do not recommend specific stocks, funds or other financial products. We do not predict short-term market moves. We do not offer personalized investment advice, and nothing we publish should be read as such. We run no paid subscriptions and no hidden up-sells: if you ask for the handbook, you receive the handbook, free of charge.

Our editorial principle

Simple to state and hard to follow: we sell no dreams, only common sense. When the market runs hot, our job is to be the boring voice reminding you what physics — and risk — still requires.
